Notes from Dee Mack
Just a quick note to say “Thank you” to all our LCTA volunteers.
This includes LCTA Coordinators, Board Members and Captains. Your time and talents are truly appreciated.
Again, “Thank you” and I hope to see you at the 2024 Annual Captains and Players Meeting on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 at 6:00PM at Daniel Island Club.
Fee Increase Notification
As you know over the last several years, the player count within the LCTA has grown dramatically – to the point we are at capacity tennis – meaning every court available to play league tennis is being used.
This has created wear and tear, friction, and the need for improved infrastructure within our tennis facility community.
Given this, the significant majority of the fee increase will be allocated back to our tennis facilities to use for improved court conditions for our players.
The LCTA established a funding mechanism this year to help subsidize our tennis facility costs and our first allotment was a $5,000 allocation to the Summerville Recreation Department to help fund a tennis court refinishing project. All major municipal tennis facilities will be a beneficiary in 2024, and this will improve our LCTA player conditions as well.
The LCTA has always considered itself a “Peoples League” with low costs and a deep seated belief in a Healthy Competitive Tennis Environment
At $15.00, we had one of the lowest registration fees in the country and state of South Carolina:
For example – various USTA League Fees
Northern California – $54.00
Northern Ohio – $43.00
Orlando, Florida – $39.00
Austin, Texas – $35.00
Rock Hill, South Carolina – $25.00
Mid Carolina, South Carolina – $25.00
We appreciate your understanding and we continue our commitment to be the highest quality, value oriented tennis league for our players.
Mixed Doubles State Championships
We had 23 teams with close to 250 LCTA players attend Mixed Doubles State Championships over the last weekend in August, and LCTA teams showed well across the board.
Two teams emerged victorious, while 3 other teams were runners up. And numerous teams throughout made it to the championship rounds.
The winning teams were:
William Barrett’s 40 and Over 8.0 Maybank team
Chris Jones’ 65 and Over 7.0 LTPDI team
Runners up were:
Joe Sciortino’s 40 and Over 6.0 Hamlin team
Daniel Strickland’s 40 and Over 8.0 Maybank team
(which lost in the finals to their Maybank compatriots)
Michelle Crivella’s 55 and Over 7.0 Maybank team
We are pleased to announce that the USTA South Carolina awarded State Championship Sportsmanship Awards to:
Peter Finger
65 and Over Mixed Doubles Captain
(and LCTA photographer – see photo below)
Terry Linker
65 and Over Mixed Doubles Captain
Thank you Peter and Terry for your unique display of sportsmanship and your representation of the LCTA!
