Milestone Day for the LCTA and its Players

Letter to LCTA Players from Andrea Weinstein – the LCTA Board of Directors President

All,

I am thrilled to announce exceptional news regarding the LowCountry Tennis Association and the USTA South Carolina State Tennis Championships.

After a series of discussions between the LCTA, USTA South Carolina and the USTA South Carolina Board, the South Carolina Adult Leagues Committee, while doing their own research as well, has voted and approved a significant expansion of the number of League Teams that can advance to the USTA South Carolina State Championships, beginning in the Spring Season of 2026.

USTA South Carolina has created 3 brackets for advancement for 2026 based on Flight size:

# of Teams:       # of Teams with Automatic Bids:

2-11 Teams                1 Bid (1 Team Advances)

12-23 Teams               2 Bids (2 Teams Advance)

24 and Up                 3 Bids (3 Teams Advance)

Given this new regulation bracket – an additional 17 teams from the LCTA would advance (based on the # of teams in 2025) to the USTA SC State Championships, which will be a 25% increase in participation.

In 2025, we sent 68 teams to state. Next year we will send at least 85 teams. It’s our belief that this number could increase past 100 teams in the coming years. This number of advancing LCTA Teams will increase with additional teams reaching their bracketed flight size.

Example #1 – The 3.0 Women’s 18+ Flight has over 24 teams playing – the 3.0 Women’s 18 Flight will now be sending 3 Teams to the USTA South Carolina State Championships for the Spring Season.

The LCTA also had several other flights in 2025 that would be one or two teams away from qualifying to have another team advancing – which encourages new teams and participants.

Example #2: 18+ 6.5 Women’s Combo has 23 teams- the addition of another team would make 24 teams – 3 teams would now advance to the State Championship instead of 2.

This is a Milestone Day for the LCTA and the direct result of the hard work and tenacity of LCTA Executive Director, Bill Ennis. Nancy Pitcairn, Director of LCTA Adult Leagues, also played a critical role in our Team Expansion Success.

We will supply details via coordinators regarding LCTA flights that will have additional teams advancing to South Carolina State Championships.

This is an important day for the LCTA and its players. This mission to expand our LCTA participation at the USTA South Carolina State Championships has been an ongoing goal for many years. We are proud to share that this objective has been realized and now – many more LCTA Teams and players will have the opportunity to advance to the State, Sectional and National Championships.

Thank you
