A man in a black jacket, white pants, and a cap stands next to an empty gray bench on a grassy area, with green bushes and a tall fence in the background.
A plaque on a gray bench reads:

The LCTA Celebrates Bill Ennis’s Retirement with a Permanent Appreciation Bench at the Daniel Island Club.

Bill has helped to significantly grow our LowCountry Tennis League into one of the largest and most respected leagues in the country. He improved the player experience dramatically, and always focused on player enjoyment, competition, and safety.

Tough shoes to fill and he will be greatly missed. Please congratulate Bill when you see him on the courts or with one of those purple drinks in his hands at the Credit One Tournament.

A group of fourteen adults, both men and women, pose together indoors in a living room setting. Some are seated on armchairs and a sofa, while others stand behind them, all smiling at the camera.

The Old Tables

Four people stand smiling behind a gray picnic table outdoors, with food and drinks on the table. Trees and a tennis court are in the background on a sunny day.
Bill, Melinda, Haley and Val enjoy lunch on the new tables.
A wooden picnic table sits in the shade of trees near tennis courts, with a fence, metal bleachers, and a trash can visible in the background on a sunny day.
A dark green wooden picnic table and benches stand under tall trees in a sunlit park, with more picnic tables visible in the background. The ground is sandy, and the area is surrounded by greenery.
Just look at these beautiful new tables! No splinters here!
A gray picnic table sits on sandy ground near a sidewalk, with another identical table and a trash can visible in the background. Trees and green bushes surround the area.
A plaque reads:

The LCTA donated 4 indestructible polywood picnic tables to the Mount Pleasant Tennis Center campus

These tables last forever and I will be in heaven (hopefully!) and the picnic tables will still be there for your enjoyment!

Player focused enhancements have been paramount to the LCTA. Now open for coffee, lunch and happy hours!

Let’s Celebrate Our April All Star Richard Weathers!

Richard is a native son of Charleston who left home at 18 to pursue opportunities in New York. Unlike many accomplished players, he did not grow up playing tennis. His introduction to the sport came through his friendship with Mike Powers, a touring professional on the satellite circuit. Under Mike’s guidance, Richard developed strong fundamentals and a deep competitive drive that would shape the rest of his tennis life.

In New York, Richard quickly proved himself, winning both club singles and club doubles championships including with his friend and doubles partner, Tom Blake.

After returning to Charleston in 2001 and joining the LCTA, Richard continued to build a league and tournament résumé that is nothing short of extraordinary. Most recently, in 2025, he captured the National Mixed 80 Clay Court Doubles Championship — earning a coveted Gold Ball alongside his wife, Marina. This national title stands among the highest honors in senior tennis.

Beyond competition, Richard has served as a 4.5 men’s coordinator, on the LCTA Board, Competition Committee, and Grievance Committee, and volunteered with youth initiatives bringing tennis to underserved communities.

At 84, Richard continues to compete at a level that humbles players decades younger. Richard stays in such incredible shape and he achieves this by a disciplined diet (mostly vegetarian) and active lifestyle — but most of all, tennis itself — for keeping both mind and body young.

Playing now primarily out of LTP MP and DI, Richard Weathers is not simply an accomplished player. He is a champion, a servant-leader, and a shining example of what lifelong commitment to the game can achieve
