LCTA Sees Continued Growth

The LCTA is pleased to announce that our league had the 3rd highest number of player registrations in the United States- year over year this October 2025 – with only Chicago and Nashville having more player registrations/interest – more than Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, San Diego, etc.

The Maximum Tennis Initiative contributed significantly to our growth. The Low Country Tennis Miracle continues….

Combo State Championship Winners

8.5 Women’s 40 and Over

Captain Teri Robinson/LTP DI

This is a special group – they are more than a tennis team – a fellowship of friends, competitors, and supporters – and emblematic of what the LCTA strives for – not a clinical scheduling league but an outlet/lifestyle organization for competition/long term friendships, health and fun.

Congratulations Teri and Team!

Men’s 7.5 40 and Over/Ion Club

Captain James O’Brien

This is a fantastic win for the LCTA and the Ion team. 7.5 40+ has many teams in the flight and to win the State Championship is an excellent accomplishment.

It’s also great to see the emergence of the Ion Tennis Club.

Congratulations James and Team!

The Fall Season will conclude over the next several weeks

  • Thank you for the low number of defaults
  • Each flight will have a designated champion based on matches won – then – if necessary – games % won
  • Each winning team will be relayed a Fall Championship sign and the LCTA will donate $100 in each winning captains name as a gift in kind to the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital!

Enjoy the rest of the Season!

Captain’s Corner – Inclement weather regulation and New 5.0 Men’s Spring Flight

The LCTA is initiating a new column – Captain’s Corner which will focus on new or important tennis league regulations.

This month we are highlighting our new inclement weather regulation which will be implemented beginning in the Spring 2026 Season.

Thanks to Nancy Pitcairn and Val Mehta for their work and research on the new regulation.

Cold/Heat Policy

A heat/cold rescheduling decision shall be made no sooner than 2 hours before the designated match start time.

Each team will use https://www.weather.com/ by entering the location of the match to determine what conditions are predicted at match start time. No other weather resources may be used to obtain the forecast.

The following weather conditions may subject a match to be rescheduled:

(1) If the •real fee/feels like• temperature is 38 degrees or below at the time the match is scheduled to begin play, or forecast within 2 hours of match start time.

Example: If the match is at 6:30PM and the predicted real feel will be 38 degrees at 8:30, the match may be postponed. For 7:30 matches If the real feel will be 38 degrees at 9:30 the match may be postponed.

(2) If the “real feel/feels like· temperature (heat index) is 100 degrees or higher at the time the match is scheduled to begin play, or forecast within 2 hours of match start time.

Example #1: If the match is at 9:30AM and the heat index is 98 F, but it will feel like 102F by 11:00AM, the match may be postponed.

Example #2: For a 6:30PM match, weather.com predicts that it will feel like 100 F at 7PM, then the match may be postponed.

If both captains agree, players may play one or more courts in the heat/cold.

Match start time may be pushed back to diminish heat/cold exposure IF both Captains agree. This may be done 1 day before scheduled match time. A match may also begin earlier or later as needed IF agreed upon by both Captains to avoid cold/heat as court space allows.

Rescheduled make-up matches due to cold/heat must follow procedures in Regulation 2.01 K(1).

The LCTA will add a new Local League regulation this spring to address inclement weather issues in a detailed way.

Please relay any questions regarding this new regulation to Director of Adult Leagues, Nancy Pitcairn, ncpit2@gmail.com.

New 5.0 Men’s Spring Flight

The LCTA is very pleased to be activating a Men’s 5.0 rated Flight in the Spring.

This is an excellent opportunity for 5.0 players to play consistently in an organized league.

Match play will be at 6:15PM at LTP Mt. Pleasant (Thank you LTP) on a weeknight (night to be determined).

This is good for advanced 4.5 Men’s players as well.
