Shirley Godfrey-Jackson is our First LCTA All Star
Currently resides in N. Charleston. Shirley comes from a military background and has lived on the east and west coasts as well as overseas in Spain and S Korea. Shirley speaks Patois full-time at home and loves french fries!
A graduate of the Citadel’s Corps of Cadets and is the 9th African American female to graduate from Citadel. She has worked in the last 20 years in Education as a School Counselor and currently is an AVID Elective Teacher at Burke HS in downtown Charleston.
Tennis came into her life over a decade ago, and she got the tennis bug in a big way. She captains many teams and is a volunteer flight coordinator and overall Flex League Coordinator.
Shirley was selected to participate in the CTA Leadership Development Program with other representatives from around the United States and the final event was volunteering for the Arthur Ashe Kids Day Program at the US Open. She also currently serves as secretary to a local tennis club which supports the growth and exposure of tennis for minority players.
Shirley’s favorite tennis shot is the backhand volley where she plays out of the Peggy Bohne Tennis Center, St. George Tennis Center, and the Greenview Park in Columbia, SC.
She describes TENNIS in one word. “LIFE”. (this is an exercise USTA SC used recently in an icebreaker she liked)
Congratulations Shirley and Thank You for all you do for local tennis in the lowcountry!!

New LCTA Board Members
Let’s welcome and congratulate our three new LCTA Board of Directors, Stephanie Davis, Patty Evanko, and Marc Spears. They were all voted in at our Captains & Players Meeting on January 14th.
Each brings a level of expertise from the unique backgrounds and we look forward to achieving great things with the contributions in 2026 and beyond.
