The LowCountry Tennis Association Gives Back!

The LCTA believes in supporting our Tennis Community through Investment and Philanthropy

This month we highlight:

The LCTA proudly presents a $6,000 check to the MUSC Children’s Hospital through the LTP Foundation, in the name of our Board, Volunteer Coordinators and Fall Championship Tennis Captains.

Four adults stand outdoors, smiling and holding a large check for $6,000 made out to MUSC Hospital from the LTP Foundation. Palm trees and a brick walkway are visible in the background.
Andrea Weinstein, Bill Ennis and Nancy Pitcairn present the donation to Nancy Heinz, Membership Manager at LTP

The LCTA made significant donations to both Charleston Peggy Bohne Tennis Center and Maybank Tennis Center in February

Tri-Level is easy to put a team together!

2 – 4.0 players

2 – alternates

8-9 players = a team – all doubles

Flight Times

18+ Tri-Level – 6:00PM Friday Night

40+ Tri-Level – 1:00PM Saturday

55+ Tri-Level – 1:00PM Sunday – last month we incorrectly posted Saturday

Tri-Level teams can advance to USTA SC State Championship (The LCTA teams did very well in 2025!), Tri-Level play counts toward your NTRP rating, and is a very social and unique experience.

Facility Managers and Tennis Professionals:

The LCTA needs your help in forming Tri-Level teams – in many instances, for example – a 4.0 team will not know players on a 3.0 team at their facility – your help in putting together Tri-Level teams by connecting players is essential and appreciated.

LCTA Players:

The LCTA had 37 teams in our Tri-Level league last year and the goal is 50 teams in 2026 (hopefully more!) and 100 teams in Tri-Level over the next 3 years – so give it a try – it’s super fun and the fastest growing league in the USTA! And it’s FREE!

William Sneed – March All Star of the Month

In 1970, William started playing tennis to stay in shape for Enduro dirt bike motorcycling.  There were no public or private courts available in Walterboro then, so William and his friends lined a court on an abandoned taxiway at the local airport! They had a net but no fencing so they chased balls into the wild plum bushes surrounding the pavement.

In 1972, Colleton County built Forest Hills Tennis Center. William began playing there and over the years played at St. George, Crowfield, CTC, Doty Park, and Dunes West. William has played on Adult, Senior, Mixed and Combo teams; he advanced to the State Championships with 1 team for 14 consecutive years!  In 2007, his Walterboro 6.5 Combo team won Sectionals.

Dee Mack, former LCTA Local League Coordinator, has known him for two decades and describes William as a steadfast advocate for the LCTA.  As an LCTA Coordinator, most recently as the Senior Women’s Coordinator from 2018 through 2025, William was unwaveringly consistent and fair in adhering to LCTA regulations.

William has served on both State and LCTA Grievance Committees, has captained numerous teams, and founded a community tennis association. According to William, the most enjoyable part of playing and volunteering with the LCTA has been meeting new people and making friends that have enhanced his physical wellbeing and quality of life.

William is known for providing advice to his senior captains such as the following: “And please remind your players, in our age group, every match you don’t play is one you’ll never get to play”

William and his wife, Lessie, also a tennis player, have been married for 58 years. And he still rides a Dirt Bike-a Honda XLS 650!
